Castro-Urdiales virtual tours app to shine the spotlight on heritage

In destinations like Castro-Urdiales, whose tourist attractions are closely linked to its historical heritage, there is a need for technological tools to adapt both its products and services to the new situation brought about by COVID-19.

Castro-Urdiales Town Council has developed a mobile application under the name FLAVIOBRIGA. This is a platform that, based on Augmented Reality and thanks to exhaustive archaeological analysis, provides first-hand knowledge of the Roman colony that occupied the territory of Castro-Urdiales during the 4th century and the historical relevance of the port's commercial activity.

This tool also offers the possibility for the user to interact with the environment and different pre-set objects, which provide information about the municipality’s history and traditions.

This application allows each user to visualise and make comparisons between the current and original state of spaces, such as the Port, the Roman Baths or the shopping area of the city, using their own mobile device or glasses designed for this purpose.
