Nexo, tourism sector’s service platform in Murcia

Nexo, a platform developed by the Institute of Tourism for the Region of Murcia with assistance from European funds, is a space for public and private companies to share their efforts to promote, commercialise and manage the destination. It also provides a bi-directional communication and collaboration channel to centralise all regional tourism information. Nexo features three tools:

  • Hermes: a tourism commercialisation platform for any tourism product and/or service from the destination, both B2B and B2C. It integrates the creation, commercial treatment and sale phases of the product, and provides regional companies with a manager channel for accommodation, a complementary product manager and a customisable booking engine, free of charge. Tourist attractions are displayed across multiple channels, such as the website murciaturistica.es, the Costa Cálida app and other websites such as spain.info.
  • Ritmo: a platform for the region's network of tourist offices, which has used information obtained from millions of users to create a tourist information system from visitor profiles and exchange knowledge between local and regional administrations. It hosts a unified data system with information about over 5000 regional tourism resources and the tourist agendas of towns in the Region of Murcia.
  • Motriz: a tourism intelligence tool with indicators that monitor regional tourism, which is able to predict behaviours and scenarios and create predictive models using internal and external sources of data.

The development of this platform has a direct and significant impact on parties within the tourism ecosystem, as they can make use of a set of free tools that allow them to narrow the digital gap that exists between tourism SMEs and the large operators and online sales channels. Moreover, it also supports local administrators as it provides data from both public and private entities, allowing them to optimise their tourism management, decision-making and integration of the destination's value proposal.

The initiative received an award at the ITH Smart Destination Awards.
