Nexto, an application created to improve and provide added value to the tourist experience

Nexto is an app created to improve and provide added value to tourists' experiences in the destination, allowing them to interact with their environment in a different, fun way while they visit and explore the city.
Specially designed for younger generations, this initiative aims to boost destinations' natural and cultural heritage through interactive solutions and augmented reality.

The app was developed and implemented in various destinations in Slovenia, followed by Lisbon and Vienna. It is expected to extend coverage to new cities like Berlin, Paris, Prague, Rome and Barcelona.

The app uses different digital marketing techniques and technologies, such as:

  • Gamification – creating missions and/or games at points of interest where users can win points which are exchangeable for different types of prizes or rewards that they can easily see and share on the Facebook or Snapchat apps.
  • Augmented reality, such as historical figures appearing in the location visited or ruins being reconstructed to their original state.
  • Interactive maps that help visitors find hidden areas in the destination.
  • Multi-media content and smart audio guides that are automatically activated via geo-location.

The app was awarded Best Practice in Digitalisation initiative by the European Capital of Smart Tourism.
