Augmented Reality in the Archaeological Heritage of Hellín
"During the year 2021, Hellín Town Council developed an application based on Augmented Reality that allows visitors to visualise the cave paintings of the Abrigo Grande de Minateda with augmented relief, declared a World Heritage Site along with the rest of the cave paintings of the Mediterranean arc.
Over the years, the cave paintings of the Abrigo Grande de Minateda have become less visible, which makes it difficult to interpret and enhance their value in terms of tourism, so this tool provides relevant information without damaging the resource itself.
Visitors are offered the possibility of using a specific tablet available at the tourist office with which they only have to point at the cave paintings and they will be able to visualise this heritage of great historical value with greater clarity, being able to learn about its details and characteristics in greater depth.
This functionality, although it has the capacity to enhance the experience of any visitor, has been designed so that young people and children, people with functional diversity or the elderly can access it easily and intuitively and enjoy a satisfactory experience."
