Embroidered Electricity Meter Covers to highlight the cultural heritage of San Esteban de la Sierra
The Eco-Cultural Design and Innovation Laboratory of Red Arrayán, "Lab-CREARTE", in collaboration with San Esteban de la Sierra City Council and the Department of Culture for Salamanca Provincial Council, are launching the “Embroidered Electricity Meter Covers of San Esteban de la Sierra Route" in 2021.
This is a circular urban route that offers a tour through the emblematic main streets of the heart of San Esteban, where the covers of the electricity meters are decorated with drawings and interpretations of the iconographic universe of the "Bordado Popular Serrano", a heritage element that is in the process of being declared an Asset of Cultural Interest (BIC).
Each of the 50 illustrations is part of the iconographic collection of Serrano Embroidery, whose detailed information can be viewed using a QR code that can be found next to each of the electricity meter covers.
The project, supported by the Ministry of Culture, opens up new possibilities for sustainable, integrative development through cultural tourism and support for the New Cultural and Creative Industries in the regional ecosystem in the Biosphere Reserve of the Sierras de Béjar-Francia de Salamanca.
