Smart signing routes that invite tourists to get off the beaten track and deepen their experience of the destination

In 2019, Conil implemented the first phase of its smart signage in its old town and surrounding areas, adding Beacon technology to signs. This technology uses an app to emit information about the places and other items on the signs, so each user can choose an itinerary based on their interests. Smart tourism signage has enormous potential for destinations.

This tool provides travellers with more personalised experiences and the destination with a solution to manage tourist flows in the space, anticipating and managing overcrowding as well as encouraging travellers to visit lesser-known places and attractions, thus extending the benefits and opportunities of tourism to larger areas of the region.

Through its management platform, website and app, this solution allows destinations to offer other kinds of resources, planned routes, information about attractions and itineraries to get between them, allowing tourists to explore lesser-known areas of cultural heritage. It includes gamification such as treasure hunts, scavenger hunts and prizes aimed at a range of target audiences.

This is complemented by NFC cards. The system generates QR codes so users can download itineraries and resources created on the website, which are available for tourist accommodation and companies to advertise themselves.
