Urban Analytics in Tequila’s Old Town for capacity control and load capacity measurement

Tequila has implemented Urban Analytics as a multidisciplinary research area based on the use of data, as well as computational and statistical techniques to study the Old Town of Tequila and determine its maximum load capacity for both people and vehicles.

This calculation of the maximum threshold supported in the Old Town, in addition to ensuring compliance with COVID-19 safety measures, also aims to preserve and improve management of the cultural and heritage resources that characterise the territory. With this information, Tequila can develop the following functions:

a) Regarding vehicles:

  • Limiting access to the Old Town
  • Pedestrianising streets
  • Creating differentiated spaces for tourist, public and commercial transport
  • Managing the flow of people efficiently and safely
  • Minimising the impact of overcrowding on the city's tourist resources.

b) Regarding people:

  • Establishing safety distance
  • Adjusting capacity by hours
  • Managing the flow of people
  • Establishing differential bookings by capacity in tourist services.
