Lorca is one of the most important municipalities in the Region of Murcia, located in the Alto Guadalentín region. It is the third most populous town in Murcia with 98,334 inhabitants; of these, 70% live in the city center and the remaining 30% live in its surrounding districts, distributed across the 1,675 km² municipal area, the second largest in Spain with a population density of 58.71 inhabitants per km².
Lorca is famous for its Holy Week processions, declared a festival of international tourist interest, as well as for its castle and Baroque architecture. It also has several protected natural areas.
