For several years now, the city has been firmly committed to sustainable and intelligent destination management, obtaining one of the Tourism Sustainability Plans with the project ‘Tarragona between blue and green’. This project seeks to diversify, segment and classify the offer; highlight and promote the city’s environmental values for ecotourism; promote multi-motivational and local tourism; encourage sustainable mobility and the revival of local commerce; promote the use of digital tools in the tourist experience; increase the average stay and reduce seasonality; and increase the economic and social profitability of tourism. In addition, joining the Smart Tourism Destinations Network demonstrates the destination’s firm commitment to continuing to work towards becoming a destination that strives for excellence in both its offering and its management.

The strategic objective of the project is to develop a smart destination management ecosystem that will provide greater insight into the city’s tourism reality and, in turn, improve the experience of tourists, visitors and residents through the deployment of the DTI platform and digital solutions. In short, the aim is to create a city with a greater technological offering that allows for better connection with people and the tourism sector, making this connection multidirectional and creating an integrated network of information and services that will converge on Tarragona’s smart platform. The implementation of this management ecosystem seeks to address the main current needs of the destination:
