Torrelavega, a city to discover.
Torrelavega is the capital of the Besaya region—located in the heart of Cantabria—and offers a pleasant view of both the coast and the interior, for beach, mountain, nature, and cultural tourism.
Torrelavega offers all the services expected of a city of more than 51,000 inhabitants, as well as a calm, welcoming lifestyle well suited to family fun and sports. Torrelavega presents itself as a city of contrasts, notable for its strong historical, industrial, and commercial identity, as well as for its rich natural landscape, architectural heritage, and cultural activities.
Torrelavega is part of the Camino de Santiago, along its Northern Route, and has a Pilgrim’s Hostel. It is also a midpoint on the Besaya Greenway, a relaxing 20-kilometer route that runs from the sea to the mountains, following the banks of the Besaya and Saja rivers.
From a heritage perspective, Torrelavega has been recognized as a Site of Cultural Interest for “La Lechera” as an example of 19th-century industrial architecture in Cantabria. It is currently undergoing an ambitious transformation process to become a regional cultural center. Along with urban Torrelavega, the municipality is made up of the towns of Barreda, Campuzano, Dúalez, Ganzo, La Montaña, Sierrapando, Tanos, Torres, and Viérnoles, which is home to a beautiful civil heritage site comprised of palaces and mansions from the 17th to the 19th centuries.
