Management and digitalisation of La Nucía’s Cultural Heritage

The digitalisation of heritage resources to guarantee their long-term preservation is an initiative which, over the last few years, has been considered in a large number of Spanish tourist destinations whose competitive potential lies in this area.
In this vein, the Department of Culture for La Nucía Town Council carried out a process of review and digitalisation of its Municipal Historical Archive, which has housed documents of great historical relevance to the municipality since the eighteenth century, such as the letter declaring its independence from the Barony of Polop, signed in 1705.
In order to enhance the value of this heritage, which has historical, legal, pedagogical, social and tourist value, and to guarantee access to any user, a website was set up on which the digitalised documents and photographic archives are classified according to their subject matter and the historical period to which they belong, which significantly improves the user experience and the conservation of La Nucía's documentary heritage.
