Smart sensors with Deep Learning technology for people counting and capacity control
Salou has installed a total of 22 smart sensors which feature Deep Learning technology. Their scope reaches up to 150 metres and they are designed merely to count people, without the need to save or send images of people on the beach. Once the collected information has been processed, it is displayed on the accessible website platges.salou.cat. Visitors and residents don't need to download an app to find out the current occupancy level of beaches, which is displayed using a simple traffic light code: low occupancy (green), medium occupancy (orange) or high occupancy (red).
All the parameters of the system can be configured and automatic warnings can be sent to those responsible for managing these beaches, informing them when a beach or section has exceeded its occupancy limits and helping them making decisions to maintain permitted capacities.
The 22 sensors are a source of highly detailed information, and use data analysis tools and Big Data to provide information that is extremely useful for the management and mobility of the town's beaches. The tool, meanwhile, provides management bodies with data about trends in visitor behaviour, enabling predictive decision-making.
