Digital transformation and capacity control at Ieronimus Salamanca to improve the visitor experience and guarantee their safety

Since 2002, the year in which Salamanca was proclaimed European Capital of Culture, tourist visits have been offered to Ieronimus, the Medieval Towers of the Cathedral of Salamanca, with over 900 years of history.

Thanks to the public-private collaboration between Salamanca City Council and the Cathedral Chapter, it has been possible to offer visitors the option of accessing the interior of the Cathedral and the top of its two Medieval Towers, visiting numerous rooms and chambers with information, audiovisual content, showcases containing objects and historical documents from the cathedral archives.

Due to COVID-19, and in view of the need to act to guarantee safe, sustainable development of tourist activity, an online ticket sales and capacity control platform was set up for this major tourist resource.
This digital tool has been used to:

  • Improve the quality of the visitor experience at the destination
  • Streamline the marketing process for tourism products
  • Facilitate the management of visitor flows and the control of capacity levels at the Cathedral.
