Estepa is an Andalusian town located in the province of Seville, in the Sierra Sur region, about 110 km from Seville and approximately 95 km from Malaga.
It stands on the hill of San Cristóbal, which has earned it the nickname ‘Balcony of Andalusia’ for its panoramic views over the Guadalquivir countryside.
Estepa stands out for its spectacular architectural scenery, with the town sprawling lazily down the slopes of the Cerro de San Cristóbal hill.
Its old town, with cobbled streets and whitewashed houses, invites you to stroll around and discover its many churches, convents and viewpoints.
It has a rich historical and cultural heritage, including monuments such as the Old Alcázar and the Torre del Homenaje, a fortress of Islamic origin renovated by the Order of Santiago, located at the highest point of the city; the church of Santa María la Mayor, built between the 13th and 16th centuries; the Torre de la Victoria, a 40-metre-high Baroque tower, the only remnant of the old convent of the Mínimos, and the Palace of the Marquises of Cerverales, a jewel of civil architecture with a Baroque façade adorned with Solomonic columns.
It is part of the Washington Irving Route and the Camino de Santiago de la Frontera, making it an attractive destination for lovers of history and culture.
Estepa is internationally renowned for the production of mantecados and polvorones, typical Christmas sweets with Protected Geographical Indication. This industry, with more than 150 years of tradition, has become an economic and tourist driver for the city. In addition, the city has the Estepa Designation of Origin for extra virgin olive oil, recognised for its high quality standards. Other products that complement its rich gastronomic offering are artisanal wines and liqueurs, such as aniseed, among other products that can be sampled in its bars and restaurants.
