The Smart Tourist Destination (DTI) diagnostic and action plan process for Níjar began on 18 October 2022 and was completed on 27 July 2023.
It is currently in the process of renewing the designation, initiated in November 2025. |
| Outstanding initiatives
|
- Níjar is implementing its 2030 Urban Agenda, focused on social well-being, conservation of the natural environment and preservation of its identity as a town, while promoting a sustainable economy and energy efficiency.
- A Tourist Sustainability Plan at Destination (PSTD) is being implemented to promote responsible tourism development, training, digitalisation, and the improvement of services across the territory.
- Níjar is committed to enhancing the quality of its tourism offer through SICTED, a project to improve quality in tourist destinations promoted by the Spanish State Secretariat for Tourism (SETUR), with the support of the Spanish Federation of Municipalities and Provinces (FEMP).
- Likewise, the Níjar 2030 SDG Observatory is being promoted as a diagnostic and monitoring tool to align local policies with the Sustainable Development Goals and to foster a regenerative tourism model.
- Work has begun on the implementation of the Integrated Action Plan “Níjar, para convivir”, within the framework of the Local Integrated Development Strategies (EDIL). This plan aims to strengthen municipal strategic planning, promote the ecological and digital transition, and contribute to the Sustainable Development Goals and the Spanish Urban Agenda 2030.
