Yecla, a city of ancient origins, is a fascinating destination where history, culture, and tradition intertwine with the entrepreneurial spirit of its people. These lands have been inhabited for over 6,000 years, as evidenced by the archaeological sites of Monte Arabí, the Iberian sanctuary of Cerro de los Santos, and the Roman villa of Los Torrejones.
Its urban center began to take shape in the Middle Ages, growing in the 15th and 16th centuries as a royal town linked to the Crown. Historic buildings such as the Old Church and the Town Hall emerged at that time. Despite the difficulties of the 17th century, traditions such as the Patron Saint Festivals in honor of the Immaculate Conception were born.
The 18th century marked a period of agricultural, demographic, and religious development with projects such as the New Church and the Chapel of the Virgin of Angustias. The 19th century brought prosperity thanks to the export of wine and the construction of emblematic spaces such as the Concha Segura Theater and the Basilica of the Immaculate Conception.
In the 20th century, Yecla reinvented itself with its powerful furniture, winemaking, and shoemaking industries. Today, Yecla is living history, tradition, art, flavor… and an unforgettable getaway.
